DESCRIPTION:

Don't forget the “U/V” item when selecting your U/V lamp.

Ultra Violet (U/V) tracers are specifically formulated to fluoresce in the presence of U/V light. From this

The common trade names for the two major products using this technology are derived: “U/V” tracer and “U/V” lamps.

Referring to the table above you can see that true “U/V” light is invisible to the human eye, while the colors of visible light

The closest are violet and blue, respectively. The overall intensity of UV light decreases as one moves

from invisible UV light to violet, then to blue and so on along the table. One must be careful not to confuse a lamp that emits

a high intensity visible blue light, and consider it better, with a lamp more efficiently tuned to emit true UV light.

Here's why BLUE is NOT necessarily okay

A properly tuned Ultra Violet (U/V) lamp should emit predominantly invisible U/V light waves, with only a

visible “purple” or “blue” light trace. The small amount of visible light is needed to direct the user's eyes towards

the leak search area, while invisible UV light beams effectively illuminate the tracer leak. The lamps that

emit large amounts of visible blue light have been widely marketed as more powerful and effective products for

make the leaks fluorescent, based on the obviously greater perception of visible light. Knowing that UV tracers

require actual invisible UV light beams to actually become fluorescent immediately contradicts this belief.

In fact, with these high blue output lamps special “anti-blue” glasses must be used to eliminate the disturbance of the blue tone.

blue light from the user's vision during the leak detection process. Otherwise, the high light output will mask the leak.

or the tracer that becomes fluorescent.
